LYME, CT – Deborah Vezan, founder and president of Limbkeepers, Lyme, Conn, found a simple solution to a difficult problem, and her invention resonated with attendees at last year’s Medtrade.
The product is a non-compression protective knit sleeve that helps protect fragile skin from bumps, bruises, and skin tears. Both of Vezan’s parents experienced the problem of fragile skin, so the product is the result of life experience.
“I made these for my mother when she had her first major skin tear,” reveals Vezan. “The skin problem was a nightmare. I went to a sock factory in North Carolina with a design that I put on paper. We made prototypes and put them on my mom. When she did not rip them off, we knew we were on to something. She had Alzheimer’s, but she related to the product through its comfort, softness, and warmth.”
After a “very good” experience at Medtrade in Atlanta last year, Vezan plans on continuing the momentum and once again will display her made-in-America product in the New Product Pavilion at Medtrade Spring, scheduled for March 30-April 1, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Vezan has will also exhibit at Medtrade 2015 in Atlanta.
“When my mom passed away two years ago, we were able to spend more time officially launching the company, and now here we are,” adds Vezan (pictured, right). “For the product, we use sport apparel yarns that have inherent wicking features and antimicrobial properties…It is not a compression garment, but it is cozy—one size fits most—it stays up, and it does not pinch. It is a cash/retail product, and there are fun colors.”
