FORT STEWART, GA – On his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan, Joshua Hargis, along with members of 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, walked into a nightmare.

The day was Oct 6, 2013, and multiple improvised explosive devices were employed by the enemy, causing overwhelming injury and four deaths. Hargis was severely wounded, losing both his legs from the knees down. In the aftermath of this tragedy Josh was transported to a military hospital where millions of people on national TV saw his “Salute Seen Around the World.”

Hargis’ brother in law, Patrick Griffith, has organized the 222-mile Warrior’s Walk that will start at Griffith’s unit in Fort Stewart, Ga, and finish at Josh Hargis’ unit in Fort Benning, Ga.

“My wife and I, along with members of my family, my unit, and several friends will walk for warriors who are unable to make the walk themselves,” says Griffith. “Our plan is to raise enough money for Josh and Taylor (Josh’s wife) to get through this situation and help defray costs for things that will be needed in their future. Josh married my sister, Taylor on June 11, 2011 and they are now expecting their first child.”

Wheelchairs, prosthetic legs, rehab, and infant supplies are just a few of the many expenses that the Hargis family will face. “We would like him to be able to enjoy and maintain his health and continue to live unrestricted by his injury,” says Griffith. “Last but not least, home and vehicle modifications for wheelchair access and ease of living are costly, and will exceed what the military is able to provide for compensation.
