CRT01: Anatomy of a Manual Wheelchair: Clinical Implications (0.1 CEU)

CEU Course (60 min)CRT and Mobility
CEU Credits:0.10

When selecting a manual wheelchair, our attention often gravitates towards the features and advantages of the selected product, or we may default to the familiar. However, neglecting to consider the form and function of the wheelchair might inadvertently do a disservice the well-being of our clients.
This presentation delves into the impact of design and material selection on functional performance and explores how it can significantly enhance the independence of our clients. We will explore fundamental principles of material science and examine how frame construction influences our clients' ability to function independently.
The discussion will review established methods for testing manual wheelchairs, shedding light on how this knowledge can be strategically applied to match the optimal product with the unique needs of our clients. Given the multitude of options available, it becomes imperative to consider all facets to differentiate between products and select the most suitable manual wheelchair for our clients.
