ATLANTA – Medtrade has partnered with Quantum Rehab and Pride Mobility to offer four CEU courses at no charge. “Whether you buy a Conference Pass or an Expo Pass, you can attend any or all of the continuing education unit [CEU] courses as a complimentary add-on,” says Sarah Varner, senior director of Marketing, Medtrade. “However, you must register for the courses if you plan to attend.”
To attend any or all of the courses, register for an expo pass or a conference pass first. After that, add the CEU course(s) you’d like to attend. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email from Medtrade customer service that has an important next step—registering with Quantum so they can capture your CEU information.
Wade Lucas, PT, DPT, ATP/SMS, clinical education manager, Quantum Rehab, will be teaching two sessions (parts one and two) dealing with power wheelchair drive controls. Regardless of experience level, he is confident that crucial information can be gleaned.
“Any clinicians who are interested in seating and mobility, or complex rehab, or people who do a fair amount of seating and mobility evaluations should consider attendance,” says Lucas, who is making his first appearance at Medtrade. “Obviously ATPs [assistive technology professionals], ATP suppliers, and their technicians can get an understanding of the different drive controls.
“Really the class is about the decision making process, and how do we provide the best product match to the patient, and make them as independent, and as functional as possible,” he continues. “So anybody involved in any sort of wheelchair evaluations, or any kind of decision making about the appropriate equipment for power wheelchair users would benefit from the classes.”
Hierarchy of Power Wheelchair Drive Controls: Maximizing Access and Independence Part 1: Proportional Control Options
(CEU Credit: .2 CEUs / 2 CECs)
Tuesday, October 22 | 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
There are many considerations to make when assessing an individual for power mobility use. The decisions made will impact not only the individual’s mobility, but also how they reposition themselves, interact socially, and access their environment. There are many options for drive controls on the market today, so how does the assistive technology professional choose a device when the standard joystick is not an option? This course is designed to introduce the participants to the wide array of specialty controls available on the market and provide insight on the clinical decision-making process of drive control choice. The course will include case studies and a hands-on component for participants to assess the various alternative drive control options. Part 1: Proportional Control Options
Objectives
- Participants will apply the hierarchy of drive controls to the selection of proportional drive control.
- Participants will explain 2 programming features available for proportional drive controls that can increase independence and maximize function.
- Participants will discuss 2 options for controlling power seating functions when utilizing proportional control devices

Stay Off the Floor Troubleshooting: A Look at Traditional and New Troubleshooting Techniques
(CEU Credit: .2 CEUs / 2 CECs)
Tuesday, October 22 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
This course is designed to show commonly encountered error codes/situations and two different ways to troubleshoot those scenarios. The traditional way and if the system is Q-Logic 3, show how to use a programming station as a diagnostics tool. The Q-Logic programmers have Monitor built into it. This course will dive into that section of the programming station and teach how to translate the data. The whole goal of this course is to teach a technician, in some situations, to use a programmer as a diagnostics tool. Learning Objectives:
- Learner will be able to identify (3) ways to troubleshoot on the Q-Logic 3 system.
- Learner will be able to choose which troubleshooting technique will work best in (6) different scenarios
- Learner will be able to apply (2) different methods to eliminate a veering problem in a Quantum Power Chair.
