Navigating Third-Party Administrator Models: Strategies for HME Success

Collaborative (2 speakers; 60 min)Managed Care

Over the last year, payer interest in third-party administrators for the HME space has grown. These models often lead with an emphasis on improving operations through new technology platforms, and use claims of efficiency to support reducing reimbursement for the HMEs who fulfill patient orders and deliver patient care. While payers may be enthusiastic about the promise of a more streamlined and technology-enabled experience, the reality can lead to patient confusion, delays, and provider disruption across prescribing, fulfillment, and ongoing patient support.

This session will review the shifting market dynamics, the driving forces behind them, and the impact of these programs. We will identify opportunities for HMEs to prepare their businesses to operate effectively alongside these “third-party administrator” programs. And we will discuss how HMEs can approach conversations with payers more strategically in light of rising expectations for measurable outcomes.

Innovation, modernization, and efficiency are worthy aspirations, and should be pursued in ways that preserve patient access, quality care, and outcomes.
