Preparing for and Complying with Recent CMS and State Regulatory Updates

2027 will prove to be a challenging year for DMEPOS suppliers and other stakeholders.  This program will address the current CMS regulations and policy changes as well as Congressional issues that will impact the DMEPOS industry.  We will address any Medicare competitive bidding program updates; as well as legislative efforts to improve the program. Equally important, the program will set out steps that DMEPOS suppliers should take to prepare for the anticipated regulatory and legislative changes.

As HME businesses adopt AI, automate workflows, and expand their digital footprint, protecting sensitive information becomes increasingly complex. HME providers must understand how data moves through their systems, where vulnerabilities exist, and how emerging technologies impact privacy and compliance requirements. This session will explore today's most pressing data privacy concerns, the role of policies and governance in reducing risk, and practical strategies for protecting sensitive information while supporting innovation and growth. 

The DME industry today is much more complicated, and more fast flowing, than the industry was 20 years ago. With the aging Baby Boomers, demand for DME is increasing. Counterbalanced against this are the evolution of technology (think AI), expansion of managed care, decrease in reimbursement, and aggressive audits. To succeed in this environment, DME suppliers must think outside the box and adopt a business model that increases efficiency…and the resultant reduction in costs. This program will discuss the multiple tools at the DME supplier’s disposal, including (i) implementing central intake, (ii) adopting the hub and spoke model, (iii) utilization of offshore subcontractors, (iv) use of AI, and (v) entering into legally compliant telehealth arrangements.
