WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sixty AAHomecare leaders recently made the case for sustainable Medicare reimbursements and the value of HME to 148 Senate and House members in a special legislative fly-in. Our advocates, drawn primarily from the AAH Board and Councils, sought support for S. 1294 on the Senate side and also helped build awareness for anticipated House Medicare rate legislation.
AAHomecare put a priority on engaging with legislators on “Committees of Jurisdiction” for healthcare finance issues for our first in-person fly-in since May 2019. As a result, our advocates were able to see 22 members of the Senate Finance Committee (out of 27 total SFC members) and 24 members on the House Energy & Commerce Committee (out of 52 total E&C offices). Chuck Williams, Josh Marx, and Mindi Walker are pictured here with E&C member Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind,), who is second from left.
You can reinforce these visits with an email or call to your Senators asking that they support S. 1294, legislation to extend 75/25 blended Medicare rates through 2024. See our issue brief for additional perspective and contact Gordon Barnes at [email protected] for contact information for Senate healthcare staffers. You can also encourage your colleagues and contacts to send a pre-drafted message of support through our Voter Voice system.
Additional background materials used in our fly-in meetings can be seen here. Mark your calendars for a full scale “virtual” fly-in set for September 20.
