WASHINGTON, D.C. – In front of colleagues, advocates, family, and peers, Michael Hamilton, executive director of the Alabama Durable Medical Equipment Association (ADMEA), received the 2025 Mal Mixon Legislative Advocate Award—honoring AAHomecare members who have significantly advanced the homecare community’s legislative goals and who have, by their example, inspired and motivated others to join the fight for better federal policy for our industry.
AAHomecare’s Tom Ryan presented the award to Mike in front of more than 100 of his fellow leaders in a dinner at the Capitol Hill Cub the night before Hill visits at the 2025 Washington Legislative Conference, honoring an exceptional career advancing our industry.
Mike’s career began more than 50 years ago at his family’s business, Hamilton Oxygen Service, where he saw firsthand the role that DME plays in improving lives.
In 1972, Mike co-founded ADMEA, setting the stage for organized advocacy in Alabama. Since then, his leadership has helped define and elevate the homecare landscape across the state and beyond. After serving for years on the Board and as Secretary-Treasurer, Mike transitioned to Executive Director, a role he has held ever since.
His impact did not stop at the state level. Mike has been a prominent figure on the national stage, serving on the Board of Directors of NAMES, actively participating in HIDA and AAHomecare, and sharing insights at Medtrade. His work on the DME MAC Region C Council and AAHomecare’s State Leaders Council has made him a resource for industry professionals nationwide.
Among his many achievements, two landmark victories stand out: his leadership in enacting state licensure for DME suppliers in Alabama and securing critical sales and rental tax relief in the state. These successes not only improved business conditions but also protected patients and strengthened standards for quality care.
This year’s award coincides with Mike’s 50th fly-in to Capitol Hill—a truly remarkable milestone that underscores his lifelong commitment to advocacy. That’s five decades of walking the halls of Congress, raising the voices of Alabama providers, and passionately representing our industry.
Congratulations to Mike Hamilton, the 2025 recipient of the Mal Mixon Legislative Advocate Award, and in thanking him for his decades of service, leadership, and inspiration.
