LAS VEGAS – I admit it; I love those goofy inspirational posters with images of mountain tops. However, translating those optimistic words into concrete action is never easy.
For HME providers trying to move into a new business realm, breaking the inertia is made even more difficult with audits and decreased reimbursements. For example, rural providers are feeling the effects of phase one of competitive bidding pricing this year, while others have been dealing with it for a long time.
The new rural pinch is all the more baffling when you consider the latest numbers showing that HME represented just 1.25% of overall Medicare spending in 2014—dropping from its 2% share ten years earlier. Government officials lavish a lot of attention on this sliver of the Medicare pie; in fact it seems they like to lick the crumbs right out of the pie tin.
If not for the hard work and relentless relationship-building of AAHomecare, competitive bidding would be even less logical/fair, and lawmakers would not know the extent of the audit burden on the industry.
Providers making the trip to Medtrade Spring, scheduled for Feb 29-March 2, can hear the latest from AAHomecare officials at the AAHomecare Washington Update from 8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Many first-time providers, and veterans alike, will be at Medtrade Spring, primarily because they are looking for something different. They want to change up the routine.
One of those posters I love sums it up best. It’s the one with the photo of Albert Einstein with his tongue out. It reads: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
In life, and in business, we tend to fall into this trap. At Medtrade Spring, you will find new products, new ideas, and new ways to change up your business. However, if you don’t go, you won’t know. And did I mention…you will have a legitimate excuse to go to Las Vegas! What are you waiting for? It’s time to get out of the office and make a trip to the Nevada desert.
