WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, seven states (CA, IA, MS, MT, NJ, NM, and SD) held Congressional primaries for one or both parties. Twenty-nine other states have primaries scheduled between next Tuesday and Sept. 13.
We urge HME advocates to seek out opportunities to connect with current legislators and candidates during primary season. Campaign events can give you a chance to engage these policymakers when their attention is especially attuned to their constituents.
A quick two-minute conversation about the need for Medicare rates that reflect market realities to effectively serve the growing cohort of Americans who require home-based care can set the stage for a great follow-up email and call on the issue.
If you can’t get one-one-one time with a current legislator or candidate at an event, you still may be able to engage one of their staffers at a campaign event and ask for help in following up.
Set yourself apart and make a strong impression on a current or future Representative or Senator this campaign season. You’ll see the dividends for this approach when you follow-up on HME policy priorities.
