ATLANTA – Along with the familiar companies and large booths at Medtrade, 86 companies (and counting) will be making their debuts at the nation’s largest HME-focused trade show. “In some ways, the numbers tell a story of optimism,” says Mark Lind, associate show director, Medtrade. “These new companies see the demographic numbers and they see opportunity. They see a vibrant distribution channel among HME providers, and they want in.”
Durhan, N.C.-based Lock Laces began to eye Medtrade after initially pursuing the endurance athlete market. “We got together with a track athlete to patent Lock Laces,” explains Ellis Keese, customer service and events coordinator. “Originally, they were meant to make transition times in triathlons easier and faster.”
They exhibited at a few running shows, but quickly realized they could reach a broader demographic. “We thought Lock Laces might make life easier for all types of people, whether those be children with special needs, people with fine motor skill impairments, people with prosthetics, the elderly, all kinds of individuals,” Keese says. “We’ve sold over 5 million pairs worldwide, and we’re in several thousand retail stores across the U.S. in over 15 countries.”
In networking with specialty running retailers, Lock Laces made inroads with orthopedic retailers, eventually selling to people with hip replacements, and various other joint replacements. “We heard about Medtrade through the grape vine, and we thought it would be a great fit, and hopefully we will learn a lot too,” Keese says. “We’ve heard great things about it, and just thought that this would be a little bit more of a fit demographic for us.”
Medtrade attendees can find Lock Laces at Booth #2467.
