DALLAS – Medtrade attendees at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas cast votes for their favorite products in the New Product Pavilion Provider’s Choice Awards, sponsored by HomeCare Media.
The Provider’s Choice Gold went to the Motif Aura Glow Wearable Breast Pump from Motif Medical, Raleigh, N.C. Samantha Akerson, Inside Sales at Motif, is pictured below right accepting the award at Medtrade.
Medtrade Monday sat down with Jason Ivey, national account manager at Motif, to learn more about the company, the product, and the secret behind its innovations.
Medtrade Monday: What are the origins of the company?
Ivey: Motif was formed after the Affordable Care Act was passed and breast pumps went from being a retail purchase to an insurance covered benefit. At the time, the products that were available on the market didn’t quite fit into the new reimbursement model and we knew there had to be a better way to manufacture innovative products—both in technology and design—while keeping the DME industry and insurance billing in mind.
Over the years, we have expanded our offerings to include pump resupply, milk storage bags, maternity support, and more—many of which are also insurance-billable. This expanded product offering has transformed Motif from being just another breast pump manufacturer to leading the market in providing new and expecting moms with solutions to support them from pregnancy to postpartum.
Medtrade Monday: You have a lot of competition. What differentiates your product?
Ivey: Yes, we certainly do. There seems to be a constant flow of new competition entering the maternity market which definitely keeps things interesting! I believe what differentiates Motif the most is the people who we have behind the scenes. From product development, to customer service, quality management, marketing, sales and every one in between—our mission has always been to help new/expecting moms have a healthier, more comfortable pregnancy and postpartum experience.
Medtrade Monday: What types of innovations make that possible?
Ivey: The most recent examples are the newest pumps—the Motif Aura Glow [Provider’s Choice Gold Award winner at Medtrade] and Motif Roam. These include an expanded range of flange sizes that come in the box. With a wider range of sizes included, a higher percentage of moms will be able to start using Motif’s products right away—rather than having to wait for a different size to be provided or pay out of pocket to order from another manufacturer, Amazon, etc.
Medtrade Monday: What were a couple of your best interactions at Medtrade?
Ivey: There were so many in such a short time span. Something that was different this year at Medtrade than previous years is that I had the opportunity to join in a panel discussion with DME and lactation experts about the state of the maternity market, and provide the audience with each of our unique perspectives on how to best navigate the vast amount of information that is out there. That conversation carried over onto the show floor as many of the people who attended the session stopped by our booth to see our new products and to ask follow-up questions about many of the topics that were covered.
