LAS VEGAS – Yes, there is so much to do in Las Vegas, and there’s a legitimate (and tax deductible!) reason to visit the desert this Spring when Medtrade Spring convenes March 27-29, 2018. Is it “worth it” for you to go? Well, I’ve been to about a dozen Medtrades and Medtrade Springs, and I’ve asked that question of many people.
The answers I get are usually an insight into human nature more than a strict accounting of the actual show events. Opinions vary drastically from person to person, but the positive ones (and fortunately that’s the vast majority) tend to express a familiar sentiment that goes something like this: “I got so much great advice at the Power Lunch, the Audit Happy Hour, the Stand Up for Homecare event, the Q&A at the educational sessions, and just talking with so many vendors on the show floor.”
When I hear a negative opinion, it’s almost always an accounting of what is not at the show, instead of what is actually there. For example, I’ll occasionally hear: “There’s not as many exhibitors as there were 10 years ago,” and I’ll nod and say, “Yes, that’s true, but what types of conversations are you having with the people who are here?” At that point, I get blank stares.
The clichés exist for a reason, and they apply here: You get what you put in and the glass is half full at trade shows. The optimist sees fewer exhibitors as an opportunity to have more meaningful conversations. The pessimist comes to the show and fails to take advantage of the invaluable opportunities to make contacts, gather information, and form personal and professional friendships.
If you spend the time and money to attend Medtrade Spring, I urge you, in the spirit of Vegas, to go “all in.” Check out networking events HERE, and consider attending the Stand Up for Homecare Fundraiser, scheduled for Wednesday, March 28.
