ATLANTA – Show organizers capped off day three of last month’s Medtrade East with the New Product Pavilion Providers’ Choice Awards, sponsored by HomeCare Magazine. The Providers’ Choice Bronze went to the Breas Medical Vivo 45 LS, a Life Support Ventilator for adult and pediatric patients.
According to Chris Southerland, general manager, Breas Medical Inc., North Billerica, Mass., Breas Medical’s sixth generation Vivo 45 LS is one of the quietest and smallest full-featured life support ventilators on the market. Medtrade Monday sat down with Southerland to learn more about the company, the product, and the conversations at last month’s Medtrade East in Atlanta.
Medtrade Monday: Why do you think attendees responded so well to the product?
Chris Southerland: Anyone visiting the booth had the opportunity to learn and see firsthand the value a partnership with Breas and the Vivo 45 LS can bring to their business, their clinicians, and most importantly their patients. To pick up the unit and experience the small size and weight of a full-featured ventilator that is half the size and weight to the leading competitive product, to hear (or not hear) it’s ultra-quiet operation and to witness comfortable, patented, leak independent eSync trigger technology that minimizes asynchronous breaths common with competitive products. These are the reasons the product received a lot of votes.
Breas Medical’s sixth generation Vivo 45 LS is one of the quietest, smallest full-featured Life Support ventilators on the market. It provides invasive and non-invasive continuous or intermittent ventilatory support in home, post-acute, hospital and portable applications for pediatric through adult patients weighing more than 5 kg (11 lbs.). It is designed to maximize patient independence and mobility with an ultra-small light weight footprint and deliver comfortable, leak independent, synchronous breaths with the patented eSync trigger technology. It also provides etCO2, SpO2, FiO2 and PtCO2 monitoring and connection to EveryWare by Breas, a securely hosted cloud-based application, which can help deliver an insightful approach to home care of respiratory patients.
Medtrade Monday: What are the origins/genesis of the company and the product?
Southerland: Breas Medical was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1991 and has provided innovative respiratory medical device products to the global market for 30 years. Breas has long been known for its Swedish design, reliable technology, and ease of use. Breas offers a comprehensive line of respiratory medical devices in Homecare Life Support Ventilation and Non-Invasive Ventilation, Airway Clearance and CPAP treatment.
Medtrade Monday: What types of conversations did you have with Medtrade East attendees?
Southerland: First, it was great to again meet with current customers and new future clients face to face. Conversations with attendees typically started about current challenges they were facing and how Breas could help overcome these challenges. This led into a deep review of Breas as a partner and our ventilation solutions.
Medtrade Monday: What if anything surprised you about the product’s reception at Medtrade East?
Southerland: It was a wonderful surprise to have a number of current Vivo 45 LS users come up to the booth, pick up, and hug the ventilator and say something to the effect of “I love this ventilator” and share patient success stories they are experiencing with the unit.
Medtrade Monday: What (if any) surprised attendees about the Breas product?
Southerland: Attendees were surprised by how small the Vivo 45 LS actually is. Typical comment on picking the unit up was “this ventilator is a lot smaller and lighter than I thought it would be”. The old adage “seeing is believing” applied here.
