The most recent report from the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies warns that a crisis could be on the horizon when baby boomers reach their 80s in homes that are not designed to meet their needs.
Study authors write: “State and local governments, as well as the private and nonprofit sectors, all have roles to play in developing more affordable and suitable housing for older households. Families and individuals also have a responsibility to plan for the future and to advocate for more age-friendly housing and communities. But given the current and growing scale of need, addressing the challenges of housing older adults must also be a federal priority.”
“We at VGM Live at Home fully support Louis Tenenbaum and the Homes Renewed Coalition cause and invite our industry friends to join with your support,” said Jim Greatorex, vice president, VGM Live at Home. “Our country presently has no solution for the Longevity Revolution with making homes safe for life long living. Supporting common sense federal and state laws that provide tax breaks for folks who invest in upgrades to their current homes, will not only bring needed retail business to the home access industry and reduce falls for senior consumers, most importantly is that it’s the right thing to do.”
