ATLANTA – Master Mindfulness is a series of workshops designed for HME professionals at the Medtrade conference to learn practical skills to feel more confident and calm as leaders. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your surroundings, thoughts, feelings, and others around you. The more we practice being mindful in specific areas of life, the easier it becomes to transition from task to task with focus and clarity—and ultimately help you become a happier, more effective person.
As a long-time consultant in the HME world and certified yoga instructor, I’ve spent years watching how people have let a lack of mindful habits turn into emotional roadblocks, inefficiency, and poor culture inside of their organizations. As professionals (and especially as leaders!) we have a responsibility to ourselves, our teams, and our customers to do better. Master Minderfulness is your space at Medtrade to focus in on some of the skills that you can take back to your everyday life and leadership.
The first session of the day is called An Introduction to Meditation and the Power of Sound. Scientists have confirmed that regular meditation can have both short- and long-term benefits such as sharper focus, reduced anxiety, and better memory. The goal of this workshop is for leaders in the HME community to learn easy ways to incorporate meditation into their everyday lives. Participants will spend the first part of the hour together learning some basic principles of meditation, why meditation works, and how using sound can enhance your meditation experience. Next, we’ll put what we learned into practice with a guided meditation, a silent meditation, and meditation with music. There will also be time for asking questions and group discussion at the end of our time together.
The second session in the Master Mindfulness program is Training for Golfers. Whether you’re regularly on the green or only get out a few times a year, this workshop is designed to teach practical exercises and habits to maintain a stronger core and better mobility. During this 75-minute workshop, participants will be introduced to Graham Polakoff, a personal trainer who specializes in training golfers to avoid injury and take their game to the next level. Graham is a Titleist Performance Institute certified medical professional with over 15 years of experience in training and owner of OmniKinetics in Birmingham, Michigan. The workshop is interactive so come prepared to move!
The third session of the day is Emotional Intelligence for Leaders. Understanding others is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership… but it doesn’t have to be. By better understanding what motivates and demotivates us as people, leaders can more effectively communicate with their teams. During this hour together, we’ll dig into the emotional side of leadership through the lens of Myers-Briggs personality types. Participants will learn their individual personality types, start to learn characteristics of personality types, and share in discussion about how to use that understanding to lead from a place of compassion and confidence.
Master Mindfulness is on Monday, Oct 21 at the Georgia World Congress Center in room C210. There is no prior experience needed to register for any Master Mindfulness workshop. Participants can add workshops to their Medtrade conference registration at any time… but be sure to hurry and secure your spot as sessions are filling up quickly.
