ATLANTA – Show organizers capped off day three of last month’s Medtrade East with the New Product Pavilion Providers’ Choice Awards, sponsored by HomeCare Magazine. The Providers’ Choice Gold went to the Belluscura XPLO2-R portable oxygen concentrator. The XPLO2-R is 3.75 pounds with an 8-cell battery attached lasting up to 5 hours. The device is FAA Approved for travel.
Jon Meneese (pictured in white shirt with Cary Parrot) is vice president of Marketing at Belluscura, a U.K.-based medical device company (with U.S. headquarters in Plano, Tex.) focused on developing oxygen enrichment technology spanning broad industries and therapies. The company hopes to improve health and economic outcomes for patients, healthcare providers, and insurance organizations.
At last month’s Medtrade East at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, attendees commented on the increased need for portable oxygen options and they were impressed with the look and feel of the XPLO2-R’s design, weight, and oxygen output. “Covid has really raised the noise level on the need for alternative sources of portable oxygen,” says Meneese. “I think providers see the new product as a welcome addition to the space since it gives them and their customers more options. The product is the world’s first modular portable oxygen concentrator and it generates more oxygen by weight than any other on the market, and that is a key selling point.”
Meneese heard a lot of positive feedback from distributor partners about the X-PLO2-R. While not completely surprised by the Providers’ Choice award, he was not necessarily expecting to win the top prize. “Most of the providers are generally knowledgeable about POCs if they deal in oxygen, he says. “I was surprised at the number of providers who currently don’t offer any oxygen-related products since that is a very key and growing space in the market.”
